Seminar on Risk Mitigation and Enhancing Financial Stability in Islamic Finance: Contingent Capital and Takāful

7th floor, Meeting Room, Board Building, Central Bank of the UAE Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

The Seminar is hosted by the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates. The objective of this Seminar is to address topical issues namely: a) Basel III; b) Contingent capital; and c) Takâful. It will provide the participants with an overview of what is being labeled as Basel III, which is at the forefront of current global financial market developments and supervisory policy debate. Given the expectation that Basel III will require banks to increase their capital, which would lead to an increase in their cost of funding, the Seminar will also discuss the role that contingent capital can play in reducing the banks’ cost of funding. The discussion will also include how Takâful can be an instrument to mitigate some risks inherent in institutions that offer Islamic financial services.
