The Exposure Draft revises IFSB-14: Standard on Risk Management for Takāful (Islamic Insurance) Undertakings, issued in December 2013. The revision aligns the Standard with IFSB-27: Core Principles for Islamic Finance Regulation [Takāful Segment], issued in 2022.
The Exposure Draft provides guidance to regulatory and supervisory authorities (RSAs) on risk management considerations arising from the distinctive structure and operation of takāful undertakings. The Exposure Draft addresses the financial soundness of the PRF, pricing and calibration of operator remuneration, prudential constraints on the distribution of underwriting surplus and on the use of qarḍ, together with the supervisory response where weakness in the PRF is recurring or persistent.
