IFSB Organised Capacity Building Workshops in Saudi Arabia

14 August 2023, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – In conjunction with the 42nd Council Meeting, Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) has successfully conducted two capacity building workshops namely the Capacity Building Workshop for Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) and the banking sector market players and Facilitating the Implementation of IFSB Standards Workshop for the Capital Market Authority of Saudi Arabia (CMA Saudi) on 14 August 2023 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The 42nd IFSB Council Meeting is hosted by the SAMA, the Chair of the IFSB Council 2023.

The workshops which aimed at enhancing the level of understanding and awareness of IFSB standards among local regulators and industry players, commenced with welcoming remarks by Mr. Walid AlZahrani, Director of Islamic Finance Division of SAMA and Mr. Bader Al-Issa, Manager of Debt Instruments Offering Unit of CMA Saudi and followed by opening remarks by Mr. Suhail Issa Al Zadjali, Assistant Secretary-General of IFSB.

The workshops were specifically designed for mentioned institutions and market players covering Islamic banking and Islamic capital markets-related standards with a particular focus on Islamic windows operations, Shariah Governance System for Islamic Financial Institutions (IFSB-10), Core Principles for ICM (IFSB-21) and Disclosure Requirements for Sukuk (IFSB-19).

The IFSB Workshops are a part of the Secretariat’s support to its members as membership benefits, aimed at facilitating the implementation of prudential standards and capacity development under the IFSB’s mandate. Both workshops gathered more than 70 participants from SAMA and CMA Saudi, including various local market players in the Islamic finance industry.
