Jeddah, 14 December 2010 – In its 17th Meeting held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia today, the Council of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) resolved to appoint H.E. Faris Sharaf, Governor of the Central Bank of Jordan, as the Chairman of the Council for the term 1st January – 31st December 2011. H.E. Rasheed M.Al Maraj, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain was appointed Deputy Chairman for the same period.
H.E. Faris Sharaf will be the 9th Chairman of the IFSB Council, and will take over from the current Chairman, H.E. Dr. Sabir Mohamed Hassan, Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan whose terms ends on 31 December 2010. With this appointment, the next meeting of the Council of the IFSB will be held in March 2011 in Amman, Jordan.
As specified in the IFSB Articles of Agreement, the Chairmanship of the IFSB is on an annual rotational basis from among the organisation’s Full Members who are also Members of the Council.
