IFSB organises two seminars in December 2010

Kuala Lumpur, 9 November 2010 – The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB), the international organisation that sets prudential standards for the Islamic financial services industry (IFSI), is organising two seminars in December 2010. The two seminars will attempt to enhance awareness on: 1) the legal issues in the Islamic financial services industry; and 2) the role of Islamic finance in the development of Africa.

The Seminars are open for participation by the IFSB member organisations, as well as the business, legal, and financial community at large. The IFSB membership currently stands at 195 organisations from 40 countries. The following programme agendas and registration forms are available on the IFSB website (www.ifsb.org).

  1. 5th IFSB Seminar on Legal Issues in the Islamic Financial Services Industry

Bank Indonesia is hosting this Seminar on Legal Aspects of Islamic Asset Securitisation and Insolvency Regimes. The Seminar, the fifth in the IFSB Legal Seminar series, attempts to discuss issues relating to the legal aspects of Islamic asset securitisation and insolvency regimes in the Islamic financial services industry. The Seminar is targeting legal practitioners, supervisory and regulatory authorities, market players and international inter-governmental institutions. It will address the following topics: 1) Sharī`ah Compliance and Legal Framework in Stable Islamic Financial Markets; 2) Sharī`ah Compliance and Legal Framework in Emerging Markets; 3) Effective Financial Market Regulation and Prudential Supervision of Sharī`ah-Compliant Securitisation; 4) Insolvency Regimes: Regulatory and Legal Challenges in Islamic Finance; and 5) Sharī`ah-Compliant Asset Securitisation: Moving Forward

This Seminar will discuss the growth potential of Islamic financial services in Africa and how it can contribute in the development of the Continent. It is the first IFSB Seminar to be held catering specifically to the African nations, and aims to increase awareness on the Islamic financial services industry among African countries. The one day Seminar will bring together an experienced international group of chairpersons and speakers, with a projected audience of over 200 delegates from all sectors of the financial services across the Continent. Participation is also expected from organisations/countries with interest in exploring the ample business opportunities offered by Africa. The Seminar  will address the following topics: 1) Outlook for Islamic Financial Services in the Development of Africa; 2) The Building Blocks of Islamic Financial Services; 3) Exploring Islamic Financial Services and Product; and 4) Islamic Financial Services and the Development of Africa – Present Opportunities and Future Challenges.
