Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam to Helm Chairmanship of the IFSB for 2014

Doha, 11 December 2013 – The Council of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) yesterday resolved to appoint its Chairman and Deputy Chairman for the year 2014. The Managing Director of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), H.E. Dato Mohd Rosli Sabtu will steer the Chairmanship of the IFSB, while H.E. Agus D.W. Martowardojo, Governor, Bank Indonesia was appointed Deputy Chairman. H.E. Dato Mohd Rosli Sabtu will take over the helm of the international standard-setting organisation from H.E. Sheikh Abdulla Saoud Al-Thani of Qatar Central Bank.
The new appointments will take effect on 1 January 2014. In light of this appointment, the 2014 Annual Meetings of the IFSB will be held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam on 25 – 27 March 2014, hosted by the AMBD.
Brief profiles of the Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the IFSB for 2014 are as follows:
H.E. Dato Mohd Rosli Sabtu was appointed as the first Managing Director of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) in January 2011. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Monetary) at the Ministry of Finance of Brunei since 2008. In addition to being a Board Member of the AMBD, he also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management Berhad (CIBFM), as well as a Board Member of the Brunei Darussalam Deposit Protection Corporation (BDPC) and the Sukuk (Brunei) Inc. His Excellency had previously also served as Chief Executive Officer of the Brunei Currency and Monetary Board.
H.E. Agus D.W. Martowardojo was sworn in as the Governor of Bank Indonesia on 24 May 2013. He is a graduate of economics from the University of Indonesia and deepened his knowledge further through various programmes at the State University of New York, Harvard Business School, Stanford University and Wharton Executive Education. Prior to his selection as the Governor of Bank Indonesia, H.E. Martowardojo was the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia. He has won, among others, the awards for Indonesia’s Best Executive in 2009 from Asiamoney, the Indonesian Banker Leadership Achievement Award 2010 from The Asian Banker, and was chosen as Finance Minister of the Year 2012 on a global and Asia-Pacific level for The Banker in February 2012.
The 23rd Meeting of the IFSB Council was hosted and chaired by H.E. Sheikh Abdulla Saoud Al-Thani, Governor, Qatar Central Bank and attended by the President of the Islamic Development Bank, 17 governors and governors' representatives from among the members of the Council and four Full members representatives of the IFSB.
