The pre-Summit events will kick off with the 'IFSB Meet the Members Lunch' on 14 May, which aims to serve as a platform for the IFSB Secretariat to meet members of the organisation and to familiarise itself with the issues and concerns faced by them so as to ensure that IFSB activities and issues are of relevance and in line with the needs of its members.
On the afternoon of the same day, the IFSB is partnering with IRTI in a Forum on the Midterm Review of ‘the Islamic Financial Services Industry Development: Ten-Year Framework and Strategies’ Report. The Report was jointly published by IFSB-IRTI-IDB in 2007. In a previous statement, the IFSB explained that "post financial crisis, the global financial industry is no longer the same. In light of the increasingly challenging economic and financial environments as well as the significant developments taking place in the international financial landscape, the distinct challenges faced by various segments of the Islamic financial services industry post crisis has necessitated a progress review of the Framework to ensure that it continues to remain current, relevant and beneficial for the industry, in particular for the new Islamic financial jurisdictions."
On 15 May, MIFC will host a Business Talk by Nicholas Kaiser, themed, “Ethical Investing: Future Outlook and Opportunities” the Business Talk aims to provide valuable insights into global investment opportunities, as well as encourage cross-border business transactions, explore potential business and create a platform for networking and business engagement among participants.
In the afternoon of 15 May, INCEIF will be organising a Knowledge Sharing Partner Session (KSPS), which is being introduced for the first time as part of the pre-Summit proceedings. This initiative aims to provide a platform for knowledge sharing, fostering partnerships and forging cooperation between IFSB members, partners and the Islamic finance industry at large.
The KSPS will see the participation of Daud Vicary Abdullah, President & CEO, INCEIF; Emeritus Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohamed Ariff Abdul Kareem, Professor of Economics and Governance, INCEIF; Professor Dr Volker Nienhaus, Adjunct Professor, INCEIF; Dr. Hatim Eltahir, Director, Islamic Finance Group Leader, Deloitte ME Islamic Finance Knowledge Centre (IFKC), Deloitte & Touche - Bahrain and Richard Thomas OBE, Chief Executive Officer of Gatehouse Bank.
These pre-Summit events have proved popular and very informative in previous Summits. They present an opportunity for networking and opening doors to potential investments and business partnerships – from among the IFSB members as well as the local, regional and international financial community – specifically those attending the Summit.
The 10th Annual IFSB Summit is specifically aimed at harnessing the latest developments and innovation in regulation, prudential standards, current market practices and future challenges to keep you informed about the global Islamic financial services market; to provide a platform for dialogue among peers; and a platform to voice concerns and suggestions in contributing to the future direction of the industry.
