Pre-Summit Events on 14 and 15 May 2013 to Add Value to the 10th IFSB Summit

Kuala Lumpur, 18 March 2013 - The Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) will kick start its 10th Annual Summit with a two-day Pre-Summit events on 14 and 15 May 2013, both with the participation of the IFSB and its partners. Themed, "The Future of the Islamic Financial Services Industry: Resilience, Stability and Inclusive Growth", the 10th IFSB Summit will be held on 16 and 17 May 2013 at Sasana Kijang, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Bank Negara Malaysia is hosting this IFSB landmark event.

The pre-Summit events add value to the main Summit proceedings and provide participants and speakers various networking opportunities and platforms to meet, discover and discuss in a more relaxed environment.

Two programmes are planned on 14 May 2013. They are the IFSB Meet the Members Lunch and a Forum on Mid-Term Review of the "Islamic Financial Services Industry Development: Ten-Year Framework and Strategies".

The Meet the Members Lunch is a platform for the IFSB Secretariat to meet the IFSB members with the aim to understand the issues and concerns faced by them to ensure that the activities planned and conducted, as well as issues covered, by the IFSB are of relevance and are in line with the needs of its members. The IFSB will launch the Islamic Financial Services Industry Stability Report 2013 in this session.

Meanwhile, the Forum will engage discussion on the recommendations and issues published in a 2007 Framework report namely the "Islamic Financial Services Industry Development: Ten-Year Framework and Strategies" which was jointly published by the IFSB, the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). Over five years have passed since the publication and the global financial industry is no longer the same. The distinct challenges faced by various segments of the Islamic financial services industry (IFSI) post-crisis has necessitated a progress review of the Framework to ensure that it continues to remain current, relevant and beneficial for the IFSI, in particular for new Islamic finance jurisdictions.

On 15 May 2013, the IFSB will be holding the Knowledge Sharing Partner Session (KSPS) and country showcases. KSPS is being introduced for the first time as part of the IFSB Summit. The session provides a platform for IFSB partner organisations to initiate dialogue and discussions, present ideas as well as exchange views, with the aim of promoting knowledge sharing, partnership, and cooperation among the members of the IFSB, and the Islamic financial services community at large. The International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) will debut this year's KSPS session.

The Country Showcases, which were introduced as a pre-Summit event in 2007, traditionally provide a platform for countries who wish to promote themselves as centres for Islamic finance. It also provides the IFSB members and the global financial community the opportunity to network while opening possibilities to potential investments and business partnerships. Malaysia has confirmed participation in the showcase which will feature a country presentation, followed by a networking lunch.

The Pre-Summit events will be followed by the main Summit on 16 and 17 May 2013.

The IFSB is also celebrating its 10th year anniversary in 2013 and a 10th Anniversary Dinner which will be held on 16 May 2013 during the Summit to pay tribute to all the members of the IFSB for their significant contributions and support to the organisation and the Islamic financial services industry as a whole.
