Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan to assume Chairmanship of the IFSB Council in January 2010

Kuala Lumpur, November 23, 2009 - In it’s 15th Meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, the Council of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) resolved to appoint H.E. Dr. Sabir Mohamed Hassan, Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan as the Chairman of its Council for the term 1st January – 31st December 2010. H.E. Dr. Umayya Toukan, Governor, Central Bank of Jordan is appointed Deputy Chairman for the same period.
Dr. Sabir Mohamed Hassan will be the 8th Chairman of the IFSB Council, and will replace the current chairman, Dr. Muhammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser, Governor of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency whose terms ends 31 December 2009. With this appointment, the next Meeting of the Council of the IFSB in March 2010 will be held in Khartoum, Sudan.
As specified in the IFSB Articles of Agreement, the Chairmanship of the IFSB is on an annual rotational basis from among the organisation’s Full Members who are also Members of the Council.
